The Alexander Technique is a unique hands-on practice that will teach you improved impulse control, how to regulate/recognize muscular patterns associated with tension and stress, and builds an increased awareness around your habitual, automatic responses and behaviors. By learning how to say 'no' to habitual responses and the urge to rush to the next thing, you will be able to more easily stop and consciously consider the best way to go about meeting your goals. This allows for more choice in your actions. When we are repeatedly exposed to stressful situations it becomes harder to return to normal functioning and we get stuck in the muscular and thought patterns associated with fight or flight and stress. The Alexander Technique helps students get back on track to ease and comfort.

Your teacher will be guiding you through gentle hands-on and verbal instruction in a kinesthetic re-education process. Throughout a series of lessons your bearing (how you carry and 'use' yourself) will change, and you will find more grace and ease in your daily activities. Students often report a greater sense of well-being, ease, freedom, and lightness after a lesson.

Alexander Technique lessons are taught one-on-one in my studio. Just as learning to play an instrument takes time, learning to improve patterns of thought and muscular use happens over a series of lessons.

No experience or prior preparation is needed. However a healthy dose of curiosity is helpful! Please wear comfortable clothes that you can move in.

Perspective from a student

“Not only is Natalie an incredible acupuncturist in her own right, but she is also talented in several other modalities such as cupping, shiatsu, energy work, and my personal favorite: the Alexander Technique. She treats the world as her classroom then goes the extra mile to become and certified in the areas she finds most interesting. While I have thoroughly enjoyed every modicum of self- betterment and pain relief she offers, I have to say I have grown the most by becoming a student of hers in the Alexander Technique.

When I first heard about the Alexander Technique (AT) I found it a bit hard to grasp. I knew it was popular in the UK and is known to help with chronic pain, improved posture, inhibiting negative habits, and plenty more. But it was not until I met Natalie at the chair for the first time during my AT lessons that I began to scratch the surface of its many benefits. Instead of trying to describe its intricacies, I will share the ways in which these lessons with Natalie have enriched my life and allowed me to be more present. This is after being involved in competitive volleyball, yoga, outdoor activities, meditation, flotation tanks, and a chronic pain diagnosis.

Since staring my AT journey, I have found that being a student has helped me become less reactionary to the constant external stimulus that surrounds us in society. This includes things like dangerous drivers, daily demands, or inevitable life stress. Lessons have brought a meaningful awareness that have allowed me to move through the world in a way that is not only more efficient but has brought me overall improved health. This ranges from the food I eat to how I do my chores.

If you are lucky enough to live near a quality AT teacher, I highly recommend taking classes. And Natalie is certainly a qualified teacher with extensive training who will provide you with the tools you need. You just have to do the work to utilize them.”

About The Alexander Technique

The photos below illustrate my improved 'use' and how it looks visually. As a chronic sloucher, most of my life, it always delights me to see how much I've changed over the years. We will not be directly working on posture in Alexander Technique lessons, but improved posture, ease in activities, and less pain is often an indirect result of a series of lessons.

“You are not here to do exercises or to learn to do something right, but to be able to meet a stimulus that puts you wrong and learn to deal with it.”
